We’re at the last letter of the alphabet in Mrs Nesbitt’s ABC Meme - yay! I’m falling back on the rather obvious ‘Z is for Zzzzs’ because it echoes how I’m feeling right now – plum tuckered.
This is a video collection of photos of our cats in various states of disarray and the music is a snippet of ”Dream A Little Dream” by Mama Cass (not that I really needed to tell you that, I’m sure)!

Y is for Yacht.
Origin of the word: 1550–60; from the Dutch jaght, shortened from jaghtschip - hunting ship, (deriv. of jagen, to hunt + schip, ship). The first yachts were built as light, fast sailing ships to pursue pirates, for use as customs vessels and to deliver pilots to waiting ships.

Xenophobia. (xeno·phobi·a n.) A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.
Being the new kids on the block could lead to a certain amount of xenophobia.
Especially when you are physically different to your new neighbours.
But just having the courage to say hello and get to know those scary neighbours can be a great first step to getting along.

Woody. She now resides at Lake Tahoe and is known by the name ‘Woody’. Built by famous engineer and boat builder Garfield Wood in 1931 this is the Rolls Royce of motor cruisers and utterly beautiful. When I saw her I thought of Marilyn Monroe – scenes with the millionaire and the fancy yacht in ‘Some Like it Hot’.

V is for ‘Vertical’ and ‘Vertigo’. Are you a sufferer … of vertigo? I am – a bit. I love looking up at tall buildings.

Dont mind, looking down at the tops of other buildings from behind the safety of a hefty glass screen, or standing and admiring a great view, high in the mountains.

But what I really jib at is being out in the open, with a very short wall between me and a 3,500+ foot sheer drop. (The Lilliputian objects in the clearing below are cars).

Umbelliferous. There is a better explanation of this word over at my Flickr photostream but if you can’t be bothered with that, think ‘umbrella-like’! I think this is cow parsley or, as it is also known, ’Queen Anne’s Lace’…on the other hand it could also be hemlock. So basically, to be safe: Look, Don’t Touch!

Travel and Tahoe. The thin, clear mountain air around Lake Tahoe allows the lake’s crystalline waters to reflect the blue skies above (so said a sign by the lake)! Whatever the reason, it is breathtakingly beautiful and beautifully blue. (BTW, Travellers who are more interested in beauty than gambling would be wise to stay along the north shore).

‘Reading’ and ‘Ridicule’ - it’s a ‘Twofer’ this week from me (two for the price of one). The first image is taken from a personal album of photos that I inherited when my father died. He was stationed with the RAF in the Middle East for a short time so I can date this to somewhere in the 1940s / 50s. It illustrates something we all are doing right now: Reading.
The second is a terrible old photo of mine from the 1970s and illustrates ‘Ridicule’. Crumbs, no one likes to think they are being laughed at, now do they?
