Any artist working out of the box and coming up with something new to me automatically grabs my interest. I only came across the work of musical artist Pogo recently when I heard and saw his track ‘Pogo Does Dexter’ on You Tube. He takes small snippets of sound from films (or in this case the TV series Dexter) and sequences them together to make a new piece of music. I think it’s innovative and refreshingly different and clearly some Big Guns out there are starting to think so too. Having worked musical pieces using snips of Disney films like Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins, Disney commissioned him to produce a piece based upon their film Up. I gather from Pogo’s blog that at the end of last year Honda had also asked him to submit a piece based upon Empire Of The Sun’s track ‘Walking On A Dream’.
I really like the Mary Poppins mix but my favourite is possibly a track called ‘Gardyn’ that he made as a gift to his mother. In Pogo’s own words: “Comprising my mother’s voice and the sounds of her garden, this video is my first Pogo mix of the real world. I hope I’ve done my mother justice in capturing her passion. Enjoy.”
I think it’s a lovely gift and I’m sure his Mum is very proud of her talented son.
