There was a programme on last night about Theo Paphitis the Greek Cypriot millionaire now famous for buying and turning around the fortunes of lingerie companies Contessa and La Sensa and stationers Rymans. Mr P sold his interest in the lingerie companies not so long ago, retaining Rymans. He said he is often asked why he sold the ‘exciting’ companies and kept with stationery and his reply was that stationery is exciting. See, I understand this. Don’t ask me why, but if I have occasion to go to a stationers, as I did last week, I’m like a kid in a sweet shop. I love looking through all the little bits and pieces there designed to make life easier, to make us more creative and more organised. I love pens – I can never have too many pens – and I even love the smell of the paper.
This morning a craft supplier I use sent me email notification that they have in some new stock so I moseyed on over, just to take a peek. I love this on-line store, probably because it plays into my obsession with stationery. I’ve thought of creating some more scrapbook pages but right now my time is better spent on organising Christmas things before we go away. Having visited Craft Obsessions this morning I’m itching to get creative again and get ordering. What wonderful names craft designers pick for their companies … ‘BoBunny’, ‘Daisy Bucket’, ‘Three Bugs in a Rug’ … and what pretty designs of paper, just crying out to be used as the backdrop for some precious photos. Oh, and ‘embellishments’ – oh, now don’t get me started on embellishments! I have a good supply of them handy here at home but if I even start looking at what else is new and available, I know I’m going to want to buy more.
Yep, I can’t explain it but it’s my secret addiction. Stationery.
