It’s the shortest day of the year for those of us up here in the frozen north and so I thought it a good time to finally show my face around here again, in anticipation of new beginnings and the lengthening days ahead on our journey into spring.

To my friends, both north and south of the border, I wish you all a very happy, safe and relaxed Christmas weekend ahead and above all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012. May next year be a great one for us all.

As I’ve mentioned before, for a long time now I’ve been lacking in creative inspiration and if I’m being honest, actually a bit tired of the internet. I recently discovered something however that has got my creative juices flowing again and opened a portal to a whole new and beautiful world. Pinterest.
I’ve always been a magpie for collecting ideas and images that inspire me, sorting them in files and latterly, saving them on my computer. Recently I wandered on over to Pinterest and I have to tell you I was immediately smitten. At last, somewhere to gather together all my ‘pretties’ online, a place to find other creative souls with similar tastes, and a chance to regularly become absorbed in all the beauty and innovative ideas that are out there to find but so often missed. I love it. Think of it as a place to make ‘virtual world mood boards’ if you will. It’s a great resource if you have new creative projects in mind, or if like me you’re just a beauty and design junkie! Interaction with others is not expected but optional. (Er, just reading this back, I should perhaps say that this is not an ad and nor am I a Pinterest employee). :)
I’ve been happily putting together design and inspiration boards and it’s definitely sparking my enthusiasm again. I’ve put a Pinterest link to my art boards over in the right hand column here. Do, please, wander on over to see what I’m wibbling on about. The only slightly odd thing about this site is that it’s ‘by invitation’. I know that I have some hugely creative friends here in Blogworld so I thought I’d give you a heads up. Anyone wanting an invitation, please just give me your email address (my address is on my contact page at the top of the screen) and I’ll be happy to invite you. Anyone already with art boards up on Pinterest, please point me in your direction.

Apropos of nothing at all, do you have an undermining/know-it-all voice in your head that simply won’t STFU? I do. I say things to people and as I’m saying them the know-it-all (KIA) is contradicting and questioning me.
‘Should you really have said that? Won’t she be thinking you’re just weird now?’
Case in point: I was at the supermarket pre 9 o’clock the other morning. We were having a mini-heatwave, with temperatures to rival Barbados, and as the doctor has advised me to try not to get too hot I thought it wise to knock the grocery shopping on the head really early on and then relax in the relative cool at home. The checkout girl knows me well and I happened to mention my master plan for shopping early and then ‘vegging out all day’. As those words tripped off my tongue the KIA went into full swing:
‘Now she thinks you’re lazy and anyway, that wasn’t very subtle – she has to work all day.’
You know what they say about people talking to themselves. Well I’ve been doing it for years.
Sooo…guess who came to stay at the weekend?
Yes, that’s right. It was Corporate Zombie….
and his long-term girlfriend, Queen Vampire.
They’re an odd match, often fighting. She has quite a temper and things can get seriously out of hand.
Zombie confided in me
He says he often feels like she’s sucking him dry. Sometimes it’s so bad that he even packs his bags
but there’s something about her that always makes him stay.
Interesting guests, but all in all, I’m glad they’re leaving. I’m afraid I did swear at them under my breath a few times during the course of the weekend. Especially when they wanted me to do their hair. *
How ’bout you? What did you do at the weekend?
* These little characters aren’t as easy to make as they look, but they are addictive. Having sworn like a trooper during the making of the Vampire Queen, I’m now considering making an Amazon, complete with bikini top and spear! :)
is that they are amused
by finding funny angles

and then posting the results
on their blogs for a few cheap laughs
Look – no arms!
This is our big boy Sweet William (all 8 kilos / 17+ pounds of him) , fast asleep on my husband’s side of the bed. He’s strictly a Daddy’s boy. You can tell that because he’s doing his best to burrow into the pillows to gain maximum male ‘scent-age’ from my beloved.

There aren’t nearly enough photos of me up here (!) and whilst going through all the oldies but goldies I came across this one and thought I’d share:
I imagine who ever took the shot (my brother, I’m guessing) thought the wotsits (what are they? ground squirrels??) were a whole lot more interesting than me – hence the ‘no head’ thing. Actually I’m finding this shot quite interesting.
Did I really bend that way once upon a time? Was I really that slim? I still like those clogs – I wish I had those clogs right now. And those trousers…except they wouldn’t fit me of course…and I’d look, frankly, ridiculous in them. What did happen to that melting heart ring? ‘Cos I like that too. And the belt – it had a Pierre Cardin watch in it, not that it was any use as a watch . I mean, you try reading the time from your belly button. Hmm…the bag’s not too bad either …but all together? Wow. What was I thinking?
